I'll be adding more video questions to the blog and YouTube throughout the day today, and Paige will be updating her blog throughout the day. We have some great discussion questions lined up so be sure to check back and forth throughout the day for more content. Also, if you post anything on Instagram, make sure and use the hashtag #noblepaiges so we can see your pictures!
And don't forget to check back at the end of the day for when we announce next month's book!
Here's the first question!
I'll be commenting throughout the day, but make sure and stop back by in a couple of hours for my second question!
Hi Kelsey! Thanks to you and to Paige for hosting this book club! While I was excited to embark on this new cyber literary adventure, I too, was disappointed in the book. I kept hoping it would get better the deeper I delved into the book, but it really didn't and was just flat. The ancillary characters did seem a bit richer than the main character Olivia. I think the whole story wasn't very fluid and cohesive but I do think the author did a pretty decent job of illustrating her mother's mental illness and just how out of control and unhealthy it can be. I also thought meeting up with her sisters and her dad and her time with them was unrealistic. Again, overall I was disappointed in this book when I so wanted to enjoy it and recommend it to others. Happy to report I am currently reading a book I am enjoying! Looking forward to the next month's book. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Suz! Thanks for chiming in so quickly! I agree with you about Myla's mental illness. In fact, that was the part of the book that I liked best probably, but just didn't feel like it 'fit' with the rest of the book. What book are you currently reading? I'm always looking for recommendations!
DeleteKelsey, I also wanted to the like the book but never felt like any of the characters had any redemptive qualities. I think a lot of the events in the book were unbelievable, because the author just tried to do TOO much. I don't know a whole lot about bipolar disorder, as far as how much it affects behavior, with the mental health (psychic abilities) the mother went through, but I also agree that the imaginary babies were just a little over the top and didn't help the story in any way.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the author just tried to do too much. It just felt overwhelming. And I truly believe she would have lost her parental rights years ago!
