"What I Had Before I Had You" Noble Paiges Book Club Discussion--Last Question
Hey everyone! Here's the last question for "What I Had Before I Had You." And I'll be announcing the next book in just a couple of minutes and I'm hosting a giveaway, so be sure to check it out!
Myla seemed to want to protect Olivia, by covering and not revealing her bipolar disorder. But as a reader, I felt she was being very selfish and causing Olivia more harm, by not being truthful. I found it difficult to relate to Myla's character, because she showed more love and affection for the "imaginary" twins, than she did for her flesh and blood daughter! She also seemed to never want to help herself. I didn't see any benefit for the visits she made to the mental health facility and it was just a continuous circle of never really looking outside of herself to see how her disorder was affecting her daughter.
It really bothered me that Olivia was left out and abandoned while these 'imaginary' twins were so well cared for. And to literally abandon her for weeks at a time was really upsetting! That also bugged me on the 'believability' factor because I felt that for the mental health place to be really useful, they would have talked about her daughter and realized that she was left behind. Did not feel real at all!
